What We Believe
Drexel Hill Church is a local body of believers and a part of the eternal Bride of Christ. Drexel Hill Church exists to glorify Christ through holistic worship and an intimate relationship with the Father, rooted and grounded in sonship.
We believe that people are created in the image of God and are designed purposefully to worship God. Jesus Christ is the Son of God and God incarnate, and is the Head of the Church. As the Body and Bride of Christ, Drexel Hill exists to glorify God through intimate worship of Christ and witness of the Gospel to the world.
Drexel Hill Church of the Brethren began as a small gathering of like-minded believers in the basement of a local Doctor’s house in the early 1950’s. Soon the fellowship had grown large enough for the young church to purchase a building. Our current building was purchased from a Baptist congregation in 1953 and has enjoyed occupying this beautiful 1908 stone building since this time.
In June of 2014 Drexel Hill Church began a replanting process in partnership with Cornerstone Christian Fellowship and the Netzer network of churches. Though Drexel Hill Church traces its heritage back to its founding in the early 1950's, God began a new and exciting work in the church through the replanting process begun in 2014.
1 Peter 5:10 has offered a road-map to Drexel Hill Church throughout the replanting work. Peter writes, "And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you." Over the past generation, Drexel Hill Church went through a long period of struggles and suffering, but God has been more than faithful to restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish His people. This phrase - restore, confirm, strengthen, establish - has become the missional heartbeat of the people of Drexel Hill Church. We desire to see our neighborhood, city, and region restored, confirmed, strengthened, and established in the love and hope of Jesus Christ.
Statement of Faith
We believe the Bible is inspired by God and is without error. It contains His truth about the past, the present, and the future and is truly applicable and authoritative for every aspect of our lives. The One True God exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. From the beginning of time, God created people to have complete relationship with Him. Sin entered the world and we, by inheritance and by choice, became separated from God. God the Son gave up His position next to God the Father to come to earth and take on human flesh, being born of a virgin, given the name Jesus, and going on to live a sinless life. He then voluntarily died on a cross as our substitute to pay the price for our sins and then victoriously defeated death, rising from the grave thereby allowing us the possibility of a restored and renewed relationship with God. Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and humans. For all those who trust Him and His sacrifice, He fills them with the Holy Spirit as a seal of redemption and guide for personal growth leading to a fully transformed life. The Holy Spirit also equips believers with spiritual gifts for the building up of the Body of Christ. At some point in the future, Jesus will return to abolish evil from the earth, set up His Kingdom, and rule perfectly over His creation. The Church is part of God's design to encourage and support believers while corporately glorifying God through various forms of service and worship. We welcome you to explore life with us and how we can more intimately know God, our Creator.
